भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में कुछ महान् व्यक्ति ऐसे भी थे जिन्होंने अपने शब्दों और विचारों से अंग्रेजी सत्ता को चुनौती दी। ठाकुर केसरी सिंह ऐसे ही राष्ट्रभक्त थे। उनकी कविता केवल मनोरंजन के लिए नहीं थी, बल्कि देश के आत्मसम्मान को जगाने का माध्यम थी।
In the Indian freedom struggle, there were some great individuals who challenged British rule through their words and ideas. Thakur Kesari Singh was one such patriot — his poetry was not merely for entertainment, but a medium to awaken the nation’s self-respect.

ठाकुर केसरी सिंह का जन्म ऐसे परिवार में हुआ, जहाँ देशभक्ति कोई परम्परा नहीं, बल्कि संस्कार थी। उनके पिता ठाकुर कृष्ण सिंह महान् समाज-सुधारक महर्षि दयानन्द सरस्वती के शिष्य थे, इसलिए केसरी सिंह को बचपन से ही सत्य, स्वराज्य और आत्मसम्मान का महत्व सिखाया गया। उनका जन्म 21 नवम्बर 1872 को हुआ; उनकी माता बख्तावर कंवर जी का निधन उनके बचपन में ही हो गया था। उन्हें कविता लिखने में विशेष रुचि थी, और उनकी कविताओं में राष्ट्र का स्वाभिमान हिलोरें लेता था।
Thakur Kesari Singh was born into a family where patriotism was not just a tradition, but a deep-rooted value. Born on November 21, 1872, to Thakur Krishna Singh, he lost his mother, Bakhtawar Kanwar, in childhood. His father was a disciple of the great social reformer Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, so from a young age Kesari Singh was taught the importance of truth, self-rule (Swaraj), and dignity — and his poetry carried the nation’s pride in every verse.

उनके जीवन की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण घटना तब घटी, जब मेवाड़ के महाराजा फतेह सिंह को लार्ड कर्जन द्वारा आहूत बैठक में उपस्थित होने का निमंत्रण मिला। इस अवसर पर ठाकुर केसरी सिंह ने एक चेतावनी भरी कविता लिखी, जिसमें आत्मसम्मान की ऐसी तीखी बात कही गई कि महाराजा का मन बदल गया और उन्होंने दिल्ली दरबार में जाने से इंकार कर दिया। यह घटना दिखाती है कि सही समय पर कहे गए शब्द इतिहास बदल सकते हैं।
The most significant event of his life occurred when Maharana Fateh Singh of Mewar was invited by Lord Curzon to attend the Delhi Durbar. Kesari Singh wrote this powerful, cautionary poem — its verses spoke so sharply to the Maharana’s sense of honour that he changed his mind and refused to attend. Words spoken at the right time can change the course of history.

Sacrifice & Revolutionary Spirit
ठाकुर केसरी सिंह के अनेक क्रान्तिकारियों से घनिष्ठ सम्बन्ध थे और वे उन्हें हथियार भी उपलब्ध कराते थे। ब्रिटिश सरकार ने उन पर प्यारेलाल नामक साधू और दिल्ली-लाहौर षड्यंत्र में राजद्रोह का आरोप लगाकर 20 वर्ष के कारागार का दण्ड दिया। जिस दिन उन्हें सजा हुई, उसी दिन से उन्होंने अन्न त्याग दिया — इस भय से कि कहीं उन्हें ऐसी वस्तु न खिला दी जाए जिससे अंग्रेज उनसे राज़ उगलवाने में सफल हो जाएँ। पाँच वर्ष तक दैवीय शक्ति से इस प्रण को निभाते हुए उन्होंने जेल में अमानुषिक अत्याचार सहे।
Thakur Kesari Singh maintained close ties with many revolutionaries and even provided them with weapons. The British government charged him with sedition in the “Pyarelal Sadhu” and “Delhi–Lahore Conspiracy” cases, sentencing him to 20 years in prison. From the day of his conviction, he gave up food, fearing the British might drug him to extract revolutionary secrets — a vow he held through sheer willpower for five years, enduring inhuman torture in jail.

1920 में उन्हें जेल से मुक्ति मिली। ठाकुर कृष्ण सिंह के पुत्र और प्रपौत्र — सभी ने अभावों का साक्षात् करना उचित समझा, परन्तु राष्ट्र को अपना सब कुछ अर्पित कर दिया। ऐसा अद्भुत और अकल्पनीय राष्ट्रप्रेम, जिसका कोई सानी नहीं। लेखनी के ऐसे महारथी को सश्रद्ध नमन।
He was released in 1920. Not only Kesari Singh, but his entire family — including his son and grandson — sacrificed everything for the nation, choosing a life of hardship over submission. His extraordinary patriotism remains unparalleled.
