भगत सिंह का परिवार पंजाब के लायलपुर जिले के बंगा गाँव का था । उनके दादा सरदार अर्जुन सिंह आर्य समाज के कट्टर अनुयायी थे, जिन्होंने महर्षि दयानन्द सरस्वती के साक्षात् दर्शन किए और उनके उपदेशों को अपनाया। उन्होंने अपने पोतों जगत सिंह और भगत सिंह का यज्ञोपवीत संस्कार वैदिक विधि से कराया।
Bhagat Singh came from a family in Banga in the Lyallpur district of Punjab (now in Pakistan). His grandfather Arjun Singh was a devoted follower of the Arya Samaj and had personally met Dayanand Saraswati. Following Vedic traditions, he performed the yajnopavit (sacred thread) ceremony of his grandsons Jagat Singh and Bhagat Singh according to Vedic rituals.

भगत सिंह जी के क्रान्तिकारी कार्यों के बारे में आप सब जानते हैं चाहे वह स्कॉट के भ्रम में साण्डर्स पर आक्रमण हो अथवा विधान सभा में बम फेंकना। अतएव यहाँ हम भगत सिंह की सामजिक संचेतना तथा छुआछूत के विरुद्ध तीव्र संवेदना को दिग्दर्शित करने वाली घटना दे रहे हैं, जिसके बारे में लोग कम जानते हैं।
बोगा लाहौर सेंट्रल जेल का सफाईकर्मी था, जो भगत सिंह की बैरक और शौचालय साफ करता था, और धीरे-धीरे दोनों के बीच आत्मीय, सम्मानपूर्ण रिश्ता बन गया।
Most people already know about the revolutionary actions of Bhagat Singh—such as the attack on John Saunders (mistaken for James Scott) and the throwing of bombs in the Central Legislative Assembly. Therefore, here we focus on an incident that shows Bhagat Singh’s deep social awareness and his strong opposition to untouchability—something that many people do not know.
Boga was a sanitation worker in Lahore Central Jail, who cleaned Bhagat Singh’s barrack and toilet. Gradually, a relationship of warmth and mutual respect developed between them.

भगत सिंह अकसर यह बात दोहराते कि जीवन में उनके मल-मूत्र का बोझ केवल दो लोगों ने उठाया- जन्म देने वाली माँ ने बचपन में, और अब यह सफाईकर्मी बोगा; इसलिए वे बोगा में भी “माँ” जैसा ही त्याग और स्नेह देखते थे। और वे बोगा को ‘बेबे’ कहकर पुकारते थे। बोगा अपनी जाति और काम को “गंदा” मानकर खुद को छोटा समझता था, लेकिन भगत सिंह उसका हाथ पकड़कर, उसे पास बिठाकर और ससम्मान सम्बोधित करके उसे यह एहसास दिलाते थे कि वह भी बराबर का इंसान है और उसका श्रम महान् है।
Bhagat Singh often said that in his life only two people had carried the burden of cleaning his waste: his mother in childhood and now this worker, Boga. Because of this, he saw in Boga the same spirit of sacrifice and care that a mother has. For this reason, Bhagat Singh used to call him “Bebe” (a respectful Punjabi word for mother).
Boga felt inferior because society considered his caste and occupation “unclean.” But Bhagat Singh would hold his hand, make him sit beside him, and speak to him with respect. In this way he made Boga feel that he was an equal human being and that his labor was honorable.

Sacrifice & Revolutionary Spirit
भगत सिंह प्रायः बोगा को कहते थे ‘बेबे मुझे अपने हाथ से रोटी बनाकर खिला दे।’ तब बोगा कहता था कि- ‘सरदार तू ऊँची जात का है मैं नीची का, मैं तुम्हें रोटी कैसे खिला सकता हूँ?’ भगत कहते थे कि मैं इस ऊँच-नीच और छुआछूत को नहीं मानता।
Bhagat Singh often said to him, “Bebe, please cook bread for me with your own hands.”
Boga would reply, “Sardar, you belong to a high caste and I am from a low caste. How can I cook food for you?”
Bhagat Singh would answer that he did not believe in such ideas of high and low caste or untouchability.
A few days before his execution, Bhagat Singh again said, “Bebe, I am going to be hanged soon. At least now cook bread for me.”

फांसी से कुछ दिन पहले भगत सिंह ने कहा कि- ‘बेबे अब तो मुझे फांसी मिलने वाली है अब तो रोटी खिला दे।’ तब अन्त में बोगा ने रोत-रोते खुद रोटियाँ बनाईं, भगत सिंह ने हँसते-हँसते खाईं और उसे गले लगाकर कहा कि वह उनके लिए अत्यन्त प्रिय है; यह सुनकर बोगा भावुक हो गया और कहने लगा कि ऐसी औलाद जिस माँ की है वह माँ धन्य है। बोगा जैसे सफाईकर्मी को “माँ जैसा”, “सम्मान के योग्य” मानना उस समय के सामाजिक माहौल के खिलाफ एक व्यावहारिक क्रान्ति थी, जिसने यह सन्देश दिया कि इंसान की गरिमा उसके श्रम, साहस और इंसानियत से तय होती है, न कि उसकी जाति या पेशे से।

Finally, with tears in his eyes, Boga prepared the bread. Bhagat Singh ate it with a smile, embraced him, and said that he was very dear to him. Hearing this, Boga became emotional and said that the mother who had given birth to such a son was truly blessed.
In those days, treating a sanitation worker like a mother and a person worthy of respect was itself a social revolution. It sent a powerful message that human dignity is determined by one’s work, courage, and humanity—not by caste or occupation.
