भारत के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में कुछ नाम ऐसे हैं, जिनका साहस अद्भुत और कल्पनीय है। कौन कल्पना कर सकता है कि एक ऐसा किशोर जिसके दाढ़ी मूँछ अभी ठीक से निकले भी नहीं हैं वह निरंकुश विदेशी सत्ता को उखाड़ फेंकने हेतु ऐसा कार्य करे जिसका निश्चित परिणाम मृत्युदण्ड हो। भारत माँ के वीर सपूत खुदीराम बोस उन्हीं वीरों में से एक थे, जो मृत्यु को आलिंगन करने हेतु मचल रहे थे।
In India’s freedom struggle, there are some names whose courage is truly extraordinary. It is difficult to imagine that a young boy, whose beard and moustache had hardly begun to grow, could challenge a powerful foreign empire in a way that he knew would lead to death. Khudiram Bose was one such brave son of Mother India who was ready to embrace martyrdom.

खुदीराम बोस का जन्म 3 दिसम्बर 1889 को बंगाल के हबीबपुर गाँव (मिदनापुर) जिले में हुआ। उनके पिता का नाम त्रैलोक्यनाथ बोस और माता का नाम लक्ष्मीप्रिया देवी था। बचपन में ही माता-पिता का निधन हो जाने से उनका जीवन कठिनाइयों से भरा रहा, पर इन्हीं कठिन परिस्थितियों ने उन्हें मजबूत और निर्भीक बनाया।
Khudiram Bose was born on 3 December 1889 in Habibpur, in the Midnapore district of Bengal. His father’s name was Trailokyanath Bose, and his mother’s name was Lakshmipriya Devi. After losing both his parents at a young age, his childhood was filled with hardships. However, these difficulties made him strong and fearless.

विद्यालय में पढ़ते समय ही खुदीराम के मन में देशभक्ति की भावना जाग उठी। अंग्रेजी शासन द्वारा किए जा रहे अत्याचारों ने उनके हृदय को व्यथित किया। वे उन क्रान्तिकारियों से प्रभावित हुए, जो मानते थे कि अन्याय के विरुद्ध संघर्ष आवश्यक है। बहुत कम उम्र में ही खुदीराम गुप्त क्रान्तिकारी गतिविधियों से जुड़ गए।
While still a student, Khudiram developed deep feelings of patriotism. The injustices and oppression carried out by British rule deeply disturbed him. He was inspired by revolutionaries who believed that injustice must be resisted. At a very young age, he joined secret revolutionary activities.

अंग्रेज अधिकारी डगलस किंग्सफोर्ड मुजफ्फरपुर (बिहार) में सेशन जज था। वह भारतीयों पर अत्याचार और कठोर सजाओं के लिए कुख्यात था। 30 अप्रैल 1908 को खुदीराम बोस ने उसे दण्ड देने के उद्देश्य से उसकी बग्घी पर बम फेंका। दुर्भाग्यवश उस बग्घी में किंग्सफोर्ड नहीं था, बल्कि दो अंग्रेज महिलाएँ सवार थीं परन्तु यह सच है कि भारतीय क्रान्तिकारियों के इस पहले बम विस्फोट की आवाज तीन मील नहीं बल्कि सुदूर इंग्लैण्ड तक सुनी गयी।
गिरफ्तारी के समय खुदीराम बोस की आयु मात्र 18 वर्ष थी। अदालत में मुकदमे के दौरान उनके चेहरे पर भय नहीं, बल्कि दृढ़ता और शान्ति थी। इसी घटना के कारण उन्हें फाँसी की सजा सुनाई गई।
A British officer, Douglas Kingsford, who was serving as the Sessions Judge of Muzaffarpur, was known for giving harsh punishments to Indians. On 30 April 1908, Khudiram Bose threw a bomb at a carriage believed to be carrying Kingsford in order to punish him. Unfortunately, Kingsford was not in that carriage; instead, two British women were traveling in it and they died in the explosion. However, this revolutionary act became widely known and shocked the British authorities.
When Khudiram Bose was arrested, he was only 18 years old. During the court trial, there was no fear on his face—only calmness and determination. He was sentenced to death for this act.

11 अगस्त 1908 को खुदीराम बोस ने प्रसन्नता और निर्भीकता के साथ फाँसी का वरण किया।
परिणाम नहीं केवल कर्त्तव्य का निर्वहन करने के दर्शन में आस्था रखने वाले इस बाल वीर के हाथों में गीता थी। वे मुस्कुराते हुए फाँसी के तख्ते पर चढ़े।
खुदीराम बोस ने जीवन के सुखों के ऊपर मातृभूमि के लिए सर्वोच्च बलिदान को वरीयता दी। ऐसे महान् सपूत को शत-शत नमन।
On 11 August 1908, Khudiram Bose bravely accepted the gallows with courage and even with a smile.
It is said that when he went to the gallows, he carried a copy of the Bhagavad Gita in his hands. Smiling fearlessly, he embraced death for the sake of his motherland.
Khudiram Bose chose the highest sacrifice for his country over the comforts of life. The nation bows in deep respect to such a brave son of India.
