श्रीमद् दयानन्द सत्यार्थ प्रकाश न्यास उदयपुर के आजीवन अध्यक्ष महाशय धर्मपाल गुलाटी का जन्म सियालकोट
(अब पाकिस्तान में) एक मसाला व्यापारी परिवार में हुआ था। उन्होंने अपने पारिवारिक व्यवसाय को पूर्वी और पश्चिमी पंजाब तक विस्तार दिया। 1947 के विभाजन के समय उनके परिवार को सियालकोट छोड़कर दिल्ली के एक शरणार्थी शिविर में आश्रय लेना पड़ा। आजीविका चलाने के लिए उन्होंने दिल्ली में तांगा खरीदा और उसे चलाया।
Mahashay Dharampal Gulati, the lifelong President of the Shrimad Dayanand Satyarth Prakash Nyas, Udaipur, was born into a family of spice merchants in Sialkot (now in Pakistan). He expanded his family business across Eastern and Western Punjab. During the Partition of 1947, his family was forced to leave Sialkot and seek shelter in a refugee camp in Delhi. To earn a livelihood, he purchased a horse-drawn carriage (tonga) in Delhi and drove it.

सन् 1958 में महाशय धर्मपाल ने अपने पिता के मसाला व्यवसाय को पारंपरिक नाम “महाशियां दी हट्टी” से करोल बाग में पुनः आरंभ किया। इसके बाद चांदनी चौक में दूसरी दुकान खोली गई और 1959 में कीर्ति नगर में एक निर्माण इकाई स्थापित की गई। सन् 1965 में कंपनी का पंजीकरण एमडीएच (MDH) के नाम से किया गया, जिससे तैयार पिसे हुए मसालों को डिब्बाबंद रूप में प्रस्तुत करने की नई परंपरा की शुरुआत हुई।
In 1958, Mahashay Dharampal relaunched his father’s spice business in Karol Bagh under the traditional name “Mahashian Di Hatti.” Subsequently, a second shop was opened in Chandni Chowk, and a manufacturing unit was established in Kirti Nagar in 1959. In 1965, the company was registered as MDH, marking the beginning of a new trend of offering ready-to-use ground spices in packaged form.

अपने उत्साह, परिश्रम और दूरदर्शिता के बल पर महाशय धर्मपाल ने स्वयं को एक विशिष्ट पहचान दिलाई और वे मसालों की दुनिया में “मसालों के बादशाह” के रूप में प्रसिद्ध हुए। सन् 2019 में उन्हें भारत के तृतीय सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया गया।
Driven by his enthusiasm, hard work, and foresight, Mahashay Dharampal carved out a distinct identity for himself and became renowned in the world of spices as the “Spice King.” In 2019, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award.
राष्ट्रप्रेम की विरासत
A Legacy of Patriotism
एक परोपकारी व्यक्ति के रूप में महाशय धर्मपाल शिक्षा, चिकित्सा सुविधाओं और आर्य समाज आंदोलन के प्रसार हेतु अनेक सेवा परियोजनाओं से जुड़े रहे। आर्य समाज के प्रचार-प्रसार में उनका विशेष योगदान रहा। उन्होंने 85 से अधिक आर्य समाज की गौशालाओं, गुरुकुलों, अनाथालयों तथा नेत्रहीनों के आश्रय गृहों का संरक्षण और सहयोग किया
As a philanthropist, Mahashay Dharampal was associated with numerous service projects dedicated to education, healthcare facilities, and the propagation of the Arya Samaj movement. He made a significant contribution to the spread of the Arya Samaj, extending his patronage and support to over 85 Arya Samaj-run *gaushalas* (cow shelters), *gurukuls*, orphanages, and homes for the visually impaired.
